“Dessine-moi un mouton”
“Draw me a sheep”
exhibit from march 14 to april 20, 2014
The famous phrase of Saint-Exupéry in his book The Little Prince is an example of the theme of representations. As the Little Prince was never satisfied of the drawing of the sheep that Saint-Exupéry was making, the latter, in desperation, finally drew a box inside which was the sheep of the Little Prince. To his surprise, it corresponded best to the representation that the Little Prince was expecting.
Representation is in the mind of the person who made it, and if often very different from the person who is trying to understand it. The distance is often very large between what we want to represent, and what others understand of our representation.
The drawing is a medium that allows the individual to shape a story that he invents. A story composed from his own experience. The importance of drawings is therefore not the aesthetic quality but what he is telling.
